MMA Fitness Tips - 3 Simple Ways to Get in the Best Shape of Your Life

Here are some simple and easy to implement MMA fitness tips that will help you get in fighter's shape (even if you don't fight).
Tip 1: Work out in short rounds or intervals. Training in timed rounds has many benefits over traditional workouts defined by sets and repetitions.
My favorite of these is that it shortens the workout. When you're on the clock, there's no time for distractions. There's no time to chat with the guy next to you about the game on Sunday for 10-15 minutes, and there's no time to check Facebook or e-mail on your iPhone. Simply put, training in rounds keeps you focused on the task at hand so you get better results in much less time at the gym.
Another major benefit of rounds, is that training at high intensity for short periods of time is scientifically proven to speed up your metabolism. This means that after the workout is over, you'll keep burning fat: even while you sleep!
Also for fighters, since a fight is going to be in 3 five-minute rounds, it is best to train in rounds to simulate a real fight. Training in rounds is an amazingly effective and simple way to improve the effectiveness of your workout, burn more calories, and improve your all-around shape.
Tip 2: Train your whole body every workout. Training your whole body every workout is the best and least time- consuming way to workout. This is a major reason MMA fighters have such a balanced physique. Training the entire body releases more growth hormone and testosterone than training certain body parts at once, it also cuts your total weekly workout time down by hours.
Because they train the whole body every workout, many pro MMA fighters only workout 2-3 times a week. The rest of their time is then free to apply to improving technique. The same can be applied to you. If you train your whole body just 2-3 times a week you won't need to workout (apart from cardio if you choose) any more than this.
If you don't fight, this means you'll have more time to do other things you love. If you compete, you'll have more time to train and improve on your boxing, bjj, and wrestling. The kicker is that, although you spend less time in the gym, you'll actually see faster results working out this way! The intensity of working the whole body in rounds and circuits will kick-start your fat burning and muscle-building like never before. Assuming you follow a proper nutritional program, you literally cannot NOT get results, even if you sit on your butt playing video games ALL DAY! (Believe me, I've done it).
Tip 3: Train all aspects of fitness. MMA fighters are in the best all around shape because they train all areas of fitness: muscle-building, muscular endurance, cardio conditioning, strength, and flexibility. Not only will training this way increase all areas of your fitness, but it's also fun and exciting because your workouts are always different. One workout you might be lifting for a one rep max on the bench press, another you'll be doing plyometrics, another, you'll be training circuits for muscular endurance.
Incorporate all of these aspects into your workouts and you'll be heading in the right direction towards getting in the best shape of your life.
