Do use a long heavy bag or standing punching bag. The first among these MMA tips and tricks may seem an obvious one. But, many trainees oftentimes train on a traditional punching bag, thus losing out on half their training potential. You want a bag in which you not only can practice strikes, but kicks as well. You can accomplish a lot with heavy bag training. You can practice form. You can practice combining various strikes as well as high and low kicks. And most of all you can get let loose on the bag, which will give you an incredible cardio workout.
Don't use rubber bands for training strikes. This is a common mistake fighters employ. They use those "rubber band training tools" to practice striking thinking that they are adding resistance to their strikes, hence their strikes will be more powerful. What you actually train your strikes to be, is lazy. Part of striking is pulling back. With rubber bands your punch get's pulled back automatically. It's like de-training your pull back! Also rubber bands place the focus of strikes in your arms and take away emphasis from using the rest of your body to help deliver powerful hits.
Don't just train stand up only. You need to take ground training classes. Unfortunately many would be fighters spend all their time training stand up, and largely ignore ground training. When they do train on the ground they position themselves on top of a grounded heavy bag and just do ground and pound. Not acceptable. Training from the bottom position with a real human on top of you is key, both mentally and physically. It's a whole different world being smothered. You need that feeling to learn how to maintain composure and how to get out of bad situations or even turn a bad situation into a submission. The most common form of ground training that fighters train is Ju-Jitsu. This now can be found in many cities both big and small.
Do train at home! At home MMA training is awesome to do and can be very effective. You don't need much either. A heavy bag, gloves, simple cardio equipment like a jump rope, a kettlebell, and a good training manual to follow. Doing at home training is among these MMA tips and tricks because it is actual ideal to get a few months worth of fight conditioning in before even stepping into a training facility. This way you will be ahead of the game and will be more likely to keep up with everyone else in class.
