Mixed martial arts or MMA as it is more commonly know is now the fastest growing sport in the world and many people are now seeing how a career can be made for someone by having an MMA conditioning certification, but where should a person go to get properly certified. In this article we are going to talk about the different types of MMA conditioning certification available and tell you how to go about getting certified.
The first thing you need to ask yourself is "do you want to be an actual MMA coach or do you just want to be an MMA conditioning trainer?"
MMA Coach
To become an MMA coach and possibly open your own gym someday you really have to have some level of fight experience preferable in MMA. I have posed this question to my own MMA coach and he said that a blue belt in BJJ is a minimum level you would want to be at to open your own gym. You would also want to have some Muay Thai skills.
MMA Conditioning Certification - Conditioning Coach
If you are simply just looking to become a conditioning coach to MMA fighters then you will have to at least have a personal training and nutrition qualification that is recognised world-wide. Many top level strength and conditioning coaches such as Eric Wong also have a degree in Kinesiology although it can take many years to get this degree.
You will also have to build your way up from working in a basic gym environment and start working with a few lower level fighters to get your name out there.
As you can imagine with any job you need to work your way from the ground up. Unfortunately it is not as simple as getting your MMA Conditioning Certification and start training 'Shogun' tomorrow. Training as an MMA fighter yourself will also help you to get contacts and to be taken more seriously as a conditioning coach.
